Finished reading: Yumi and the Nightmare Painter by Brandon Sanderson

I really enjoyed this story and for the second time in the Secret Projects again the narrative form as told by everyone’s favorite Cosmere character.

Finished reading: The Frugal Wizardโ€™s Handbook for Surviving Medieval England by Brandon Sanderson ๐Ÿ“š

This was a fun story, I would love to read more of this world.

Finished reading: Astrophysics for People in a Hurry by Neil deGrasse Tyson ๐Ÿ“š

Short and Fun. Tyson has a great way of educating people on the topic which is always interesting.

Finished reading: Waking Up to What You Do by Diane Eshin Rizzetto ๐Ÿ“š

So when we witness some of the atrocities in the world that we have of late, it seems to me that what we are witnessing, in part, is what happens when an individualโ€™s fear, hopelessness, powerlessness, and so forth, get recognition within a larger group. The individualโ€™s reactions to those experiences are generalized and legitimized, at least within the group, and any hope of self-inquiry is lost.

If its not clear by my posts, I have not done a single technical thing after work hours as of late. I get done working, do soccer stuff for the kids if the day requires it, and then I read a book. Not sure how long this will keep up, but I do feel better this way.

Finished reading: On the Origin of Time by Thomas Hertog ๐Ÿ“š

This was light on actual science and heavy on storytelling but still had some interesting ideas and thing to think about.

Finished reading: Chip War by Chris Miller ๐Ÿ“š

This neat book tied together a lot of the history I knew about and things I was not aware of, providing a clear history of the chip industry and how we got to where we are today.

Finished reading: Ordinary Wonder by Charlotte Joko Beck ๐Ÿ“š

We have to work with the truth or we miss an opportunity.

Finished reading: Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari ๐Ÿ“š

I finally found a use case for ChatGPT. Ask it a question that I am interested in. After it gives its answer ask it for book on the topic. It provides me a list of books and a synopsis of each.

Way faster than trying to google for books on a topic where I have to read multiple peopleโ€™s articles.

I am not sure what people are upset about in San Diego. This is on brand for the Padres. Even with a loaded team they are unable to find a way to win. We are a cursed fan base.

Yes, the season is still new and there is lots of time to turn it around. My point is that we should be use to this by now.

Finished reading: The Lost Metal: A Mistborn Novel by Brandon Sanderson ๐Ÿ“š

Great ending to this part of the story, looking forward to what comes next.

Finished reading: Clear and Present Danger by Tom Clancy ๐Ÿ“š

Finished reading: Tress of the Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson ๐Ÿ“š

I was not sure in the first few pages if I would like this based on the narrative structure, but it was a fun book and the story being told by a well known character did not hurt.

Finished reading: The Complete Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson ๐Ÿ“š

It took a long while to read this 10 books, but well worth it. Was I lost and confused at time, yes. In the end it paid off and I am glad that I took the time.

I have an iPad that I use as my computer away from home, but itโ€™s not really what I want. I have looked for a good device small that can run Emacs on the good a few times. I installed Linux on a Surface Go 2 but it was not great. I am really hoping that the MNT Pocket Reform fills my needs.

Finally took the time to fix my micro.blog theme to actually support parameters, and other microblog features. I think I still have some work to do, but it’s getting better.

My daughter scored her first ever goal in the first half of her last game of the season and a clean sheet in goal in the second. Parenting is so fun sometimes.

Commercial during Wildcard games on ESPN โ€œDid you know Google makes a phone?โ€ Yikes. That says a lot out their brand recognition in the phone market.

Pro tip: Make sure you are not scaling a picture of your family on your desktop background. Avoid being asked “Do I really look like that?”

For my X11 friends…

Padres lost, but we had a good time.

The thermometer says 77 but I am sweating bullets cutting the grass. East Coast humidity is awful.

Had a great vacation in the Dominica Republic. We really enjoyed getting away as a family and spending time relaxing. Such a beautiful country and wounderful people!

It seems like Microsoft is killing it with the Surface lineup. I am on vacation and I have seen more Surface products than MacBooks or Dell laptops combined. This is obviously not backed up by sales data, but the experience is real if not puzzling.

Doing a complete reinstall of Nixos is so easy. Configure drives, run two commands and I am off to the races with everything just the way I want it. ๐Ÿฅฐ
